01. NETSCAPE'S ARCHIVE. If you're like many who have had
problems with the new Netscape 6, chances are you're looking
for one of the older versions about now. They can all be
located at
http://home.netscape.com/download/archive/client_archive47x.html

02. BANDWIDTH METER. Analyze your Internet connection with
Bandwidth Meter 2001, a compact program to monitor your TCP/IP
network connections to provide averages of speed and cumulative
download reports from up to 8 network adapters simultaneously.
It's a freeware download at
http://freeware-search.com/freeware/bandwidth-meter.html .

03. THE BRICK. This is sheer foolishness, but download this
program at
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description.asp?fid=7697
and it places a brick icon in your taskbar. When you're
frustrated with Windows, just hurl this virtual brick, complete
with satisfying visual and sound effects.

04. ANOTHER STRIPPER. Several issues ago NNT mentioned a
utility to strip those pesky little brackets (> and <) out of
your reply email. A reader suggested another similar utility,
only with the capability of removing the brackets and 11 other
symbols as you wish, at
http://www.geocities.com/hbuckallen/stripper.html .

05. AOL MAIL RETRIEVAL. Unlike other email programs, AOL's
mail will let you retrieve email sent to other AOL users,
provided the recipient hasn't read the message yet. At Mail
Center, click on the sent mail link, locate the message you
want to retrieve, click on it, and click on the unsend button
at the bottom of the page.

06. IE'S FAVORITES SHORTCUT. In Microsoft Internet Explorer
5, open the Favorites menu with Alt + A and then press the
first letter of a favorite you're searching for. If there are
more than one beginning with that letter, when you reach the
desired favorite, Enter will open.

07. FLIGHT TRACKER. Still another useful tool for tracking a
flight by airline and flight number or by city and time, either
graphically or in text, is at
http://www.trip.com/ft/home/0,2096,1-1,00.shtml . For really
slow days, you can even track a random flight.

08. SMARTWRAP. This application at http://www.selznick.com
analyzes and rewraps messy text, removing quote marks and
unwanted line breaks. It works in Eudora with a simple drag and
drop plug-in; or, outside the Eudora environment, you can put
SmartWrap to good use in just about any document with the
clipboard feature.

09. ELECTRONIC SIGNING. Now that electronic signatures are
legal, it's easy enough to do those: just scan your signature
and insert it right into the document. But the ease itself is
the problem, since the unscrupulous can easily lift your
signature and place it in another document as well. Not so
with free onSign at http://www.onsign.com . Encrypted software
will invalidate your signature if anyone attempts to copy it or
to change any document that you have signed.

10. WEBCOPIER. Particularly useful for those with limited
online time, WebCopier at http://www.maximumsoft.com is a free
utility that allows copying of entire Websites or specfic
directives, scheduled downloads of up to 100 files
simultaneously, printing of all or part of Websites, and
importing of MSIE favorites and Netscape bookmarks. WebCopier
supports Javascript, Java classes, and Macromedia Flash files.
A wizard and downloading templates assist in making each
project easy.

11. INTERNET AUDIO MIX. This multi-sound recording and mixing
utility lets you drag sounds in, record from CD or microphone,
edit on the run, overdub and mix multiple tracks of .wav and
.mp3 files, preview your work, adjust for volume, pan, and
playback rate, and generally do a lot more than the $19.95
price tag would suggest. Try it free at http://www.acoustica.com

12. PROLINKZ. If you need a way to determine if a link or
download on your Web site is getting the traffic you're hoping
for, check out ProLinkz at http://www.prolinkz.com/ . An online
form at the ProLinkz Web site allows you to easily generate your
own CGI Perl script. Then, download the custom script and
associated files to your hard drive to create uniquely coded
links that redirect to any specified URL. ProLinkz counts all
hits to those links, provides activity reports, and organizes
links in groups for easier management and tracking. To use
ProLinkz your domain must be on a Unix server, have Perl 5
installed, and be able to run CGI programs. It has excellent
support if you run into problems.
